"It's OK to say you like it" is the slogan from ABC's ad campaign for The Neighbors, which was launched in January 2013.


The Neighbors was immediately slammed by many critics, but The Hollywood Reporter's Tim Goodman was merciless, calling The Neighbors "one of the least funny things to air on television since the last Hitler documentary on History." Goodman went on to rank it number one in his Worst 15 TV Shows of 2012 list, claiming "The mere fact that Neighbors got on the air is bad enough. That it wasn’t abhorred by the masses is even worse." By this point, critical reaction for the show had begun to change, so series creator Dan Fogelman decided to send the antagonistic critic a gift basket with an autographed script and a note that said, "We couldn't have done it without you!" Then Fogelman took it a step further...

At Fogelman's urging, in January 2013 ABC launched an unusual commercial campaign for the show. "This is what critics first had to say about The Neighbors," the TV announcer says as the screen becomes jammed with derogatory critical blurbs beginning with Goodman's query, "How the hell did this get made?" A moment later the announcer says, "Here's what they're saying now," and the screen is suddenly filled with critical praise. The commercials then concluded with the slogan: "It's OK to say you like it!"
